DETROIT – General Motors announced that a recall campaign is under way regarding 1997-2001 Chevrolet Venture, Pontiac Trans Sport/Montana, and Oldsmobile Silhouette minivans equipped with the optional passenger-side power sliding door. This recall involves more than 550,000 vans. "Some of these minivans may have an actuator that could jam in the unlatch position on the power sliding door," said Jeanne Merchant, assistant vehicle line executive for GM minivans. "This may leave the door in an unlatched state and, under certain operating conditions, it may open." Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile dealers will replace the suspect actuator with a new actuator bracket assembly. This repair will be performed at no cost to the customers. "Thanks to the combined efforts of the parts suppliers and our Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile dealers, parts are available and dealers are ready to quickly repair the vans," Merchant added. GM mailed the owner notification letters on April 18. "We remain very confident in the safety and quality of our minivans," Merchant concluded. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.
